3rd International Meeting on Innovative Glaucoma Surgery

After the great success of the 2nd International Meeting on Non-Penetrating Glaucoma Surgery in November 2006, we decided to continue the congress serial on this very special subject. The third meeting (3rd International Meeting on Innovative Glaucoma Surgery) will take place in October 2008.

3rd Glaucoma Meeting:  October, 24/25, 2008 - Recklinghausen

- Live Surgery, Courses, Lectures and Video Presentations -

Since trabeculectomy was introduced by Cairns and Fronimopolus it has been regarded as the absolute standard method of operation in glaucoma surgery.
However, complications such as postoperative hypotony, flattening of the anterior chamber, choroidal detachment etc. have resulted in a reluctance in identifying an indication for glaucoma surgery. For many patients this has meant a sometimes adventurous combination of eye drops.

The meeting is accredited with 13 CME (Ärztekammer Westfalen Lippe)

NEW OPPORTUNITIES
New interesting alternatives are presented by the various procedures of non-penetrating glaucoma-surgery, trabecular bypass surgery and various implants which have become more popular in recent times. Postoperative complications are rare in these cases and, judging by the results to date, the effect of reducing intraocular pressure appears to be very good. The ??learning curve?? with this method of surgery is longer, however, on account of the fineness of the structures involved, and requires more experience in coping with anatomic variations, all of which has hindered the method from spreading up to now.

We have initiated this 3rd meeting in order to provide a broader overview ? through a combination of live surgery, courses, lectures, video presentations and panel discussions ? of the current state of modern glaucoma surgery and to discuss new aspects.
Focus on:
- newly developed implants
- new surgical techniques
- analysis of long-term surgical outcome
